The short version: your journal never leaves your phone.
mycoffeetales has no account system, no server of ours and no analytics. What you write is stored on your device and read back from it, and that is the whole of it.
1. Who we are
mycoffeetales is an iPhone application distributed through the Apple App Store. References to "the app" mean that application, and "we" and "us" mean its developer. Our contact details are at the end of this policy.
2. What the app stores, and where
Everything the app knows is written to its own private storage on your device, in files that only the app can read. Nothing is mirrored anywhere else.
- Your coffees. The day, the drink, the place, your rating, your note, and the photo or cut-out you added to it.
- Your coffee ID. The name you chose to be called, your answers to the onboarding questions, and your portrait if you picked one.
- Your clippings. The stories and suggestions you saved out of the letter.
- Your collections. The cut-out images kept in your cups, timestamps, whimsical and locations folders.
- Your preferences. Reminder times, brew settings and similar app options.
3. What we collect
Nothing you have written. The coffees, the photographs, the notes, the clippings and your coffee ID are written to the app's own storage on the device and read back from it. We never receive any of it: there is no server of ours for it to reach, and no analytics library anywhere in the app.
One thing does leave, and it is not yours to read: subscriptions are handled by RevenueCat, which tells the app whether you have paid. To do that it receives the purchase receipt Apple issues and an anonymous identifier for this installation of the app — not your name, not your Apple Account, and nothing you have written. It is used to run the subscription and nothing else: no advertising identifier, no tracking across other apps, and nothing sold or shared on. RevenueCat's handling of it is governed by RevenueCat's privacy policy.
4. Permissions the app may ask for
Location
The app asks for your location for nothing, and never has. What it once used it for — pointing the map on "the place" at the café you were sitting in — is gone: a place is typed in, and the name is the whole of it. Your letter's coffee trail is drawn from the names you wrote, not from where you were.
Photos (optional)
Adding a picture to a coffee uses the system photo picker. That picker runs outside the app and hands it only the image you chose. The app is never granted access to your photo library as a whole, and it does not ask to be.
Saving a postcard to your photos asks for permission to add to your library. That permission is add-only: the app can put a picture in your photos, and cannot see anything that is already there.
Camera (optional)
If you would rather take the picture there and then, the app asks for the camera. The photo is written to your own coffee log on your phone and is not sent anywhere. The camera only opens when you choose it, and if you would rather not allow it, the photo picker and everything else in the app still work.
Notifications (optional)
Reminders are scheduled locally by your device. There is no push server, and no notification you receive is generated anywhere but on your own phone. You can turn each reminder on or off inside the app, or turn notifications off entirely in iOS Settings.
5. Subscriptions and payment
Subscriptions are sold and processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never receive your name, your payment details or your billing address. The app learns only whether a valid subscription exists, so that it knows whether to unlock, and it learns that through RevenueCat — see section 3. Apple's handling of your purchase is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
6. Children
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone. Since the app collects nothing at all, there is no personal information for a parent or guardian to request the deletion of.
7. Deleting your data
The app's settings include an option to delete everything. It removes your coffee log, your clippings, your collections, your preferences and your coffee ID from the device immediately. Deleting the app has the same effect, because there is nowhere else the data was kept. We hold no copy, so there is nothing for you to ask us to erase.
8. Your rights
Data protection laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights of access, correction, deletion, portability and objection over personal data held about you. Because we hold no personal data about you at all, there is nothing for us to action. You hold all of it yourself, on your own device, and the settings screen lets you remove it whenever you like.
9. Changes to this policy
If the app ever changes in a way that affects this policy, the policy will be updated here and the date at the top will change. If a change would ever mean your information leaving your device, it would be something you would be asked about in the app first, rather than something done to you quietly.
10. Contact
Questions about this policy, or about anything the app does, are welcome through the contact form on our website.
